PANEM ET CIRCENSES

Acti
labores jucundi Now that CWACA
officially holds the reigns, we learn that the government stable has
retired some of its horses. Jeremy
Taylor, former Chief Executive of Cheshire County Council, is one of
those put out to pasture. Before
you shed any tears, taxpayers have reportedly stumped up a whopping
great redundancy payment of £288,000 (Telegraph,
11 April 2009; must be right). To
add perspective, that amount of dosh has to be more than the annual
council-tax bill extracted from Shocklach residents and yet we’re the
ones hammering over the pot-holes that Jeremy’s lot apparently
couldn’t find the spondulix to fill in.
Since we’re on that subject, it’s worth adding that the Telegraph
(must be right) reports that British drivers (obviously not Gordon,
then) are paying out an estimated £413,000,000 a year in repairs for
axle and suspension damage caused by corrupted roads. Doesn’t
it give you a warm feeling to know that Jeremy can now afford to get his
car fixed whilst relaxing in the pleasurable contemplation of labours
past in front of a quackling fire? Theoghinus
