TEMPORARY DRILLING OF AN APPRAISAL BOREHOLE

FOR MINERAL EXPLORATION ON LAND

NORTH EAST OF BEACH FARM, CALDECOTT

(application number 6/09/10278/CPO)

Composite Energy Ltd. have instructed their planning advisors, RPS, to submit a planning application to

Cheshire County Council for the above.

The purpose of the temporary appraisal borehole is to remove core for analysis to test the presence of gas within the coals.

There will be no attempt to stimulate gas from the borehole.

Following the period of drilling ceasing, within 28 days the rig and temporary site structures will be removed,

as will waste material arising from the development. The borehole will be sealed and the site levelled and

replaced with necessary planting/re-seeding.

The site will operate 24 hours a day but all materials and equipment vehicle movements

will be scheduled between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m..

RPS state that:

  • there will not be any significant detriment to residential amenity;

  • the proposed use is short-term and temporary;

  • there will be no permanent loss of or damage to agricultural land;

  • there will be no loss of tree belts, hedgerows or field patterns;

  • there will be no pollution of water or air and

  • the site will be restored when the drilling ceases.

Also, there will not be any adverse impact on existing watercourses.

There will inevitably be some fairly large-scale traffic movements during site preparation and drilling operations

and Shocklach Parish Council have requested that, should this result in any damage to grass verges,

these should be fully reinstated and repaired.

Composite Energy and RPS are aware of the sites of biological and archaeological importance near Beach Farm.

At the moment, the operation is in its very early stages.

However, if results from this current phase of appraisal and development are commercially viable,

clusters of boreholes are planned for elsewhere in the licence area.

Should the operation develop commercially, SODPC plans to ask Composite Energy

to come to Shocklach to explain what this will entail.

In the meantime, SODPC will monitor the situation closely and will provide more information

on this website and on notice boards when it becomes available.

Should anyone wish to view the plans, please contact Alison Macchi, Acting Clerk of SODPC on 01829 250562.

Alternatively, contact your parish councillor (see List of Councillors on this site).
